IEC publishes Part 105 on firmware updates

April 9, 2020

IEC has published Part 105 of the IEC 62386 standard. IEC 62386-105:2020 is entitled “Particular requirements for control gear and control devices - Firmware Transfer.”

Part 105 defines how firmware in a DALI device can be updated in the field, either to fix bugs or to add new features. Updates are made via the DALI interface.

As the name states, the specification applies both to control gear and control devices. If new features are added, then the product may need to be re-certified.

DiiA intends to create the test specifications that are required to add Part 105 to the DALI-2 certification program. However, this work has not yet commenced.

IEC standards can be purchased from the IEC website.
