Lunatone rotary switch is first multi-master control device to earn DALI-2 certification

November 6, 2018

For the first time, DiiA has awarded DALI-2 certification to a multi-master control device.

The DALI ROT control device from DiiA member Lunatone is a DALI application controller with an integrated rotary knob and a push button for adjusting light levels of DALI control gear.

Control devices of two main types – application controllers and input devices – are included in DALI-2 (version 2 of the IEC 62386 standard). In contrast, DALI version-1 did not include control devices.

Application controllers are the “brains” of a DALI system. They can use information from any source, make decisions, and send commands to control gear. Application controllers may be either single-masters or multi-masters. Multi-masters are control devices that can share the DALI bus with other multi-masters. Single-masters are not intended to share the bus with other masters.

The DALI-2 certification program was recently expanded to include certification of DALI-2 multi-master application controllers (see News). The following product types are now eligible for DALI-2 certification:

  • LED drivers (control gear)
  • Single-master application controllers
  • Multi-master application controllers
  • Bus power supplies (standalone)
  • Bus power supplies integrated with control gear or control devices

All DALI-2 certified products are listed in the online Product Database.
