Overview of DALI-2 certification

DALI-2 Certification

DiiA created and operates an independently-verified DALI-2 certification program, allowing member companies to show that their products comply with the requirements of the DALI-2 specifications.

Overview

► The DALI-2 certification program is based on DALI-2 Test Specifications which are created by DiiA. These Test Specifications are derived either from the relevant Parts of IEC 62386, the international DALI standard, or from new specifications written by DiiA.

► Certified products have successfully completed the DALI-2 certification process, including verification by DiiA. Such products qualify to use the DALI-2 trademarks. Only certified products can carry the DALI-2 trademarks (wordmark or DALI-2 logo), and only DiiA members can certify their DALI-2 products.

► DALI-2 certification brings the promise of significantly improved interoperability and additional functionality compared with current DALI version-1 devices in the market.

► DALI-2 certification involves independent verification of test results. In contrast, DALI version-1 product compliance is based solely on self-declaration, which has led to interoperability issues in the market.

Certification FAQs

Is there a cost involved in DiiA certification? Why?

View answer

Yes, all DiiA members must pay a certification fee for each product certified. Payment is made in advance by purchase of certification credits. This is separate from any testing costs, which the member company must pay independently. The certification fee helps to meet the costs incurred by DiiA, including: Technical support for certification; Developing and improving test-sequence software; Verification of test results; Maintaining the online submission system and product database, and building new functionality; Carrying out market surveillance to protect the value of DiiA and DALI branding.

How does DALI-2 certification differ from DALI version-1 compliance testing?

View answer

The DALI-2 certification program is based on the latest version of the DALI protocol, and involves verification of test results by DiiA. In contrast, DALI version-1 compliance testing is based on self-declaration without verification of results. As well as covering many different product types, including control devices (e.g. input devices and application controllers), DALI-2 certification offers the promise of improved interoperability of products from different manufacturers.

Do companies have to pay each year to renew DALI-2 certification?

View answer

No, the certification fee is a one-off cost per product. Once a product has been certified, it remains certified for as long as the company remains a member of DiiA.

Where can I download product test reports or certification documents?

View answer

DiiA does not issue test reports or product certification documents. Instead, every DALI-2 certified product is listed on the public search page: (www.dali2.org/products). This page can be used to check the status of DALI-2 certification: Products not appearing in the list are not DALI-2 certified. The same applies to DALI version-1 registration.

What is the cost to certify products?

View answer

The cost varies according to circumstances. DALI-2 certification is open only to Regular or Associate members of DiiA, with an annual fee of EUR 15,000 or EUR 5,000, respectively. Each certified product requires the use of one certification credit, purchased in advance. This is a one-time fee (it is not an annual charge). Many companies decide to purchase Probit hardware and other equipment for testing, but this is not mandatory. Some companies pay for the services of a test house. However, the test-sequence software is supplied free to members.

  Step Notes
1 DiiA creates and maintains DALI-2 Test Specifications DALI-2 Test Specifications are based either on IEC 62386 or on new DiiA specifications
2 DiiA develops software Test Sequences for use on approved test equipment  DiiA members can download the current Test Sequences from the member website >> Test sequences
3 Member companies execute the required tests for each product Members can also use the services of accredited DALI test houses >> Test houses
4 If all tests pass, the member company submits the results via the DiiA website Certification credits (one per product) must be pre-purchased before products are submitted
5 DiiA verifies the results. If all data is OK, then DALI-2 certification is granted The member company may use the DALI-2 logo on the certified product
6 Relevant data is displayed in the online DiiA Product Database Visibility of a product in the database confirms that the product is certified. If a product is not listed, it is not certified.
